This week’s Young Artist Spotlight is boldly shining on The Erwins’ soprano vocalist, Katie Erwin. The Erwins consist of Keith, Kody Kristopher and Katie. They are a full-time evangelistic ministry based out of the small town of Edgewood, Texas. At the early age of four, Katie stood in a chair at a church about an hour from their home and sang her first song. Today her flawless soprano vocals has etched their way into the hearts of Gospel Music fans from all across the county.
Katie has a rich Christian heritage lead by her parents, Dennis and Tiffany, and is deeply rooted in her Southern Gospel career. She grew up as a PK, better known as a Preacher’s Kid. “When you’re young and exposed to the Christian faith on a daily basis, you don’t think much about your own salvation. In a sense, you are living it,” notes Katie. It was at one of her father’s revivals that she felt the conviction to accept Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, but didn’t immediately surrender. “I came home and while lying in bed that night, the Holy Spirit kept dealing with me. I got up and went to my father’s home office and said Dad I need to be saved. We knelt down and my dad led me to Christ. That was in November 2013 and it is by far the best thing I have ever done. I haven’t been the same since,” recalls Katie.
Preforming at the prestigious Dove Awards is one of Katie’s favorite career highlights. Katie notes, “It was an incredible experience to be representing Southern Gospel that night with so many Christian genres represented. Everyone in the room was glorifying God. It was fun and everyone there was so sweet!”
The family’s latest project and their first single to radio is entitled, Only Faith Can See. It was produced by Wayne Haun and debuted on September 2nd, 2016. The compilation has eleven amazing songs that reach the hearts of both the young and the elderly. The lyrics from the title cut off the project simply says… Some see a mountain but some see the mountain move. Some see the water but faith can see us walking through. Katie shares, “Sometimes we can’t see what God is doing in our lives from our point of view, but if we trust God we will see an incredible outcome of something great.”
One of Katie’s all-time favorite songs recorded by her family is, I Choose To be a Christian. “We, have been singing it for a couple of years. It was one of my first solos. We find that a lot of youth choirs from youth camps and events use it as their theme song. We as a family find that to be really cool and special to us. This song has blessed so many hearts and has a great message.
“Standing on stage ministering with my brothers is an incredible opportunity to share the love of Christ which I don’t take lightly. We as a family feel God has given us a platform to help the younger generation. We are truly blessed by that call and love what we do. We wouldn’t change it for anything,” notes Katie.
Katie’s favorite scripture is James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Katie is a shining example of this scripture, very blessed and gifted by God.
